08 — The Office Productivity
may vary.

Productivity may vary.

A private affair.

A private study should offer a little distance from the rest of the house. Somewhere to think, work or simply disappear for an hour. This one takes its responsibilities seriously enough, although the setting may have other plans.

Le Chalet office rendering — deep blue plaster walls, built-in shelving with brass sconces, a cognac leather sofa on a vintage rug, a round black marble coffee table, and a framed bluebird and moon painting above a dark desk with a brass lamp
Working Conditions

The office got the best view in the house, which may have been a tactical error. Glass on three sides puts Deer Valley front and center, while the color-drenched interior keeps things suitably moody. What actually gets accomplished in here remains to be seen.

The Details

Distractions, thoughtfully arranged.

01

The Painting

Bluebird and moon, framed above the desk.

Detail of the bluebird and moon painting in soft, muted tones: a pale blue and white wing spread above a full moon on a black field scattered with stars and fine white geometric line drawings, under a deep blue wash
02

The Mountains

The reason for all that glass.

Photograph of a forested Deer Valley mountain with ski runs cut down its slopes under a pale sky, under a deep blue wash
03

The Collection

Built-in shelving, lit from within.

Built-in deep blue shelving lit by small brass downlights, styled with a black globe, brass bowls, framed mountain photographs, art books, a bronze horse, bronze vessels and trailing ivy, under a deep blue wash
Next Door

The color follows you into the bath.

In the adjoining bath, blue-green terrazzo set with black marble chips picks up the room's palette, so the mood carries through the door.

Looking through black steel-framed glass doors into the Le Chalet office at dusk: built-in lit bookshelves, a cognac leather sofa, a dark desk, a bluebird painting, and a tall window framing snowy Deer Valley ski slopes
The Temptation

With glass on three sides, Deer Valley is hard to ignore, and the room is built to make that a fair fight.
